1. Q. What can I expect at my initial appointment and how long will it be?
Your initial appointment can last any where from an hour and half to two hours. After the consultation with Dr. Judge, he will decide if you need to be tested for allergies. If you do have a history of asthma, we will also do a breathing test called a Pulmonary Function Test.
2. How is the allergy testing done, and does is hurt?
The testing we do is mostly done on the back with individual plastic prick devices. We test for 74 different allergens for adults and 48 for children. It takes only a couple of minutes to do and takes 15 minutes for the results. It does not hurt but if you react it can start to itch pretty bad. We also do what is called intradermal testing which is done only if you have a history of allergies but the prick test was negative. This also takes only a few minutes and the results are ready in 15 minutes.
